TRUMBULL
COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY Historic Preservation: Current Preservation Efforts The Board of Trustees of the Trumbull County Historical Society unanimously passed the following resolution on June 19, 2003: Whereas, plans are being made for the building-replacement of Warren G. Harding High School in the City of Warren, and Whereas, the
center-front facade of the 1924 structure is historically classic school architecture, and
certain interior design elements are part of the heritage of the Warren community, and Whereas, the
Trumbull County Historical Society promotes the preservation of such local landmarks where
feasible, Be it therefore resolved that the Board of Trustees of the Trumbull County Historical Society supports the preservation of said center front facade and certain interior design elements of Warren G. Harding High School for their inclusion into the new school design. What happens now? - If the Ohio School Facilities Commissions approves Warren's building proposal, a bond issue could be placed on the November 2003 ballot to fund the community share for the project. For the issue to be placed on the ballot, the language will have to be finalized by mid-August. The board of Education may decide by the end of July what components will be funded by the bond issue, including preservation of Harding's facade and other historic elements. Why your help is needed - Some board members want to preserve parts of Harding, especially the facade. Some members advocate tearing down the entire building, and they may not have heard from you and others who believe we must preserve valuable elements of our history. How you can help - If you have not already told board members your views, do so now. Contact them in person or by phone.
